HUGE! Trump Makes Major Endorsement In Texas

(Congress Report) – Former President Donald Trump just announced a major endorsement in the state of Texas. Taking to his favorite social media platform, Truth Social, Trump proclaimed that he would be backing David Covey who is running for the position of Speaker of the House in the Texas House of Representatives. Trump has a pretty solid track record of picking winners, so if he is backing Covey, chances are good that he’ll receive a sizable boost from the MAGA crowd.

“David Covey is running against Dade Phelan, the Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives, who led the Fraudulent Impeachment of the recently re-elected, in a landslide, Attorney General of Texas, Ken Paxton,” Trump said in the post, according to The Western Journal.

“David is an America First Conservative who will Secure the Border, Restore Election Integrity, Protect our Families and Military/Vets, and Defend our under siege Second Amendment,” he continued.

Trump went on to state that despite Phelan promising to support his presidential campaign, he did not feel he could return the favor due to the role the speaker played in trying to boot Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton by impeachment, which is a process that Trump himself has had his fair share of experience with.

The Texas Tribune is reporting this isn’t the first time the former president spoke against Phelan. Back in 2021, he commented, “Texans are tired of Phelan’s weak RINO leadership in the State House.”

Just last week, Phelan released a statement saying he voted for Trump twice before and would do so again come November.

“I have voted for President Trump twice, and I plan on voting for him a third time,” Phelan declared on Tuesday. “Trump himself has stated he does not know me nor does he know my record of fighting for Southeast Texans.”

“Unfortunately, my opponents have sought this endorsement in yet another attempt to get retribution against me for holding public officials accountable and defending the Texas House against outside interests,” he added.

The comments did nothing to move or change Trump’s position, unfortunately for Phelan.

“Last week Dade Phelan said, ‘I voted for President Trump twice for President, and I’m going to vote for him a third time. I think he’s going to be the Nominee,’” he went on to say. “Words, however, do not mitigate the Absolute Embarrassment Speaker Phelan inflicted upon the State of Texas and our Great Republican Party!”

“Therefore, David Covey has my Complete and Total Endorsement for Texas’ 21st State House District — He will never let you down!” Trump exclaimed.

The impeachment trial against Paxton that set Trump on a path of supporting Phelan’s opponent was based on allegations he committed various abuses of his office, which included taking bribes, misapplying resources, and making false statements. The Texas House actually suspended Paxton last May. However, he was later acquitted by the Texas Senate of every single charge brought against him.

“The sham impeachment coordinated by the Biden Administration with liberal House Speaker Dade Phelan and his kangaroo court has cost taxpayers millions of dollars, disrupted the work of the Office of Attorney General and left a dark and permanent stain on the Texas House,” Paxton went on to say in a statement released after his acquittal.

“The weaponization of the impeachment process to settle political differences is not only wrong, it is immoral and corrupt,” he remarked in conclusion.
