Republicans Call For Impeachment Of New Mexico Governor Over Suspension Of Gun Rights

(Congress Report) – Gun rights advocates are no doubt equal parts appalled and feeling vindicated over the actions taken by New Mexico’s radical left-wing governor, Michelle Lujan Grisham, who fulfilled the prophecy that Second Amendment supporters have preached for nigh unto eternity, by deciding to ban concealed carry of firearms in the state. Still don’t think progressives are coming after your guns? It’s never been about keeping firearms out of the hands of lunatics. It’s about keeping them out of the hands of law abiding citizens who might just try to resist the transformation of their nation into a socialist disaster.

However, there are folks in the state of New Mexico who are not going to stand for this infringement of their right to bear arms, a God-given right that no man or government has the authority to take away. Two Republican lawmakers from the state are now starting a movement demanding that Grisham be impeached and removed from office.

Jack Davis, writer for The Western Journal, said, “On Friday, Lujan Grisham issued a public health emergency order that banned legal gun owners from carrying weapons in and around Albuquerque due to recent shootings. X, previously known as Twitter, boss Elon Musk asked whether she should be impeached, a sentiment with which two state lawmakers agreed.”

“This is an abhorrent attempt at imposing a radical progressive agenda on an unwilling populous. Rather than addressing crime at its core, Governor Grisham is restricting the rights of law-abiding gun owners,” Republican state Rep. Stefani Lord wrote in a post on X.

“Even Grisham believes this emergency order won’t prohibit criminals from carrying or using weapons; a basic admission that this will only put New Mexicans in danger as they won’t be able to defend themselves from violent crime,” she stated in a release posted on the platform.

“This emergency order violates the Governor’s oath to protect and defend the rights of New Mexicans and is illegal in nature,” the lawmaker added. “The legislature has a duty to intervene when the government is overstepping boundaries, and Governor Grisham’s order and comments disqualify her from continuing her tenure as governor.”

Rep. John Block, also a Republican, shared his support for Grisham’s impeachment or resignation.

“We sponsored the anti-crime bills to fix our state and voted for them in committee while your left-wing extremist radical allies voted against punishing criminals — leading to civilians and law enforcement being brutally murdered in our streets, including in my district,” Block remarked in a post of his own on X.

“Then, you sign an order so unconstitutional even you said you know criminals won’t follow it and that it won’t hold up in court. Then, you claim your oath and the Constitution are not ‘absolute’ and can be suspended at your beck and call. You and your acolytes alone have blood on your hands. Resign or be impeached,” he explained.

Both lawmakers spoke with KRQE-TV, commenting that they would not remain silent and sit on the sidelines while the Constitutional rights of residents in New Mexico are violated.

“We made an oath, which is a promise that we swear that we’re going to uphold the Constitution, the rights of New Mexicans, and she threw that right out the window,” Lord went on to say during the interview, adding, “I was completely shocked and taken by surprise that she would do such a gross overreach and completely violate the Constitution.”

Block pointed out that Grisham “called for open season on law-abiding citizens by subverting the state and federal constitutions and laws of our state, and that’s something that needs to be remedied immediately.”

John Turley, a professor at George Washington University who is also a legal scholar, was not happy about the order either.

“The order, in my view, is flagrantly unconstitutional under existing Second Amendment precedent. It could also be a calculated effort to evade a ruling by making the period of suspension so short that it becomes moot before any final decision is reached by a court,” he noted on his website.

Turley then pointed out that the order in New Mexico is indicative of a trend he finds to be rather unsettling.

“Democratic leaders have increasingly turned to a claim used successfully during the pandemic in declaring a health emergency to maximize unilateral authority of governors. There have also been calls to declare racism a public health emergency, supported by groups like the American Public Health Association,” he asserted.

“Transgender programs have also been declared a public health emergency by some groups. The motivation behind many of these calls is not to negate constitutional rights, but the question is whether such declarations allow governors discretion to suspend or curtail individual rights,” the legal scholar added.

Turley concluded, “As the list of claimed health emergencies grow, even state Democratic judges may begin to balk at the obvious end run around constitutional rights.”

At the end of the day, the right to defend life, liberty, and property comes from God. Check out Exodus 22. It’s all there. And since that right comes from God, the supreme and ultimate authority in the universe, only He has the power to revoke it. God, the Bible tells us, does not ever change, thus, this is one of those principles that endures forever. Government cannot strip you of the right to self-defense. Period.

It’s time for Grisham to resign or be impeached.

  1. What this governor needs to do is WALK through her biggest city ALONE in the middle of the night for a month without any protection. If she won’t allow citizens protection , why should she have any???

    • I agree, yet refusal to comply is a necessary, but not sufficient measure.
If no other proaction is taken against this self-justified usurper of Constitutional authority, and ultimately usurper of the Peoples consent to be governed by government, she will simply wait with gubernatorial authority for future better opportunities to try tyranny again in hopes of success.
She must be shown to be a, “don’t let this happen to you” example.

  2. Any government official that wants to take away guns from a law-abiding citizens only proves a law-abiding citizens needs to keep a gun handy. Why do they need protection if we don’t have any protection.
What did Hitler do when he took over a country? Take the guns?
