Leaked Emails: Media Exec Instructs Journalists Not To Refer To Hamas As ‘Terrorists’

(Congress Report) – One of the most disgusting aspects of progressivism in modern day culture and society is without a doubt the treatment of radical terrorists by the mainstream media outlets. Many of these publications and broadcast companies refuse to call members of evil, vile organizations like Hamas, what they are: terrorists. To do so, in their eyes, is not politically correct. As if that’s not ugly enough, folks on the left have actually been sympathizing with Hamas, hailing them as heroes for fighting back against “colonialism.”

A good example of this comes to us from the Director of Journalistic Standards and Practices and Public Trust with the CBC, George Achi, who, as per Laura Wellington of The Western Journal, sent out an email instructing journalists to no longer refer to members of Hamas as “terrorists.”

Why do we care about not hurting the feelings of a vicious group of deplorable miscreants who have just killed hundreds of innocent men, women, and children? That should be the least of our concerns. Also, journalists are supposed to be concerned with providing people in their viewing or reading audience with the truth. Hamas is a terror organization. That’s a known fact. To deny this is to do a disservice to the audience.

Wellington wrote, “Where was it when they slayed hundred of innocent Israeli civilians or maimed, raped, and dragged off countless more? I guess that doesn’t matter to Achi or the CBC. ‘They may be terrorists, but don’t call them such’ is obviously the thinking.”

Achi, according to a piece published by the Toronto Sun, penned in his memo, “Do not refer to militants, soldiers or anyone else as ‘terrorists.’ The notion of terrorism remains heavily politicized and is part of the story.”

“Achi goes on to caution reporters in the same memo about how they must continue that same sensitivity when quoting sources who speak about Hamas’ actions in the media. The superior nature and undue courtesy extended to Hamas by CBC’s instructions could be translated as support for the terrorist organization,” Wellington continued.

Another article crafted by the staff over at the National Review said that the Head of Public Affairs for CBC, Chuck Thompson, went on to say, “As was made clear in the email you saw, CBC News attributes the words ‘terrorist’ and ‘terrorism’ to authorities, politicians and other officials who use these terms. There is no ban on these words. However, we ourselves avoid declaring specific groups terrorists, in line with the policies of many reputable news organizations and agencies around the world.”

Let’s be honest here. Would these companies feel the same way if Hamas attacked their country? No, probably not. But because they are attacking Israel, well, that’s acceptable, because antisemitism is all the rage within the progressive movement. So much for tolerance, right?

As Wellington pointed out, it doesn’t matter to these people who Hamas murdered in cold blood. It also doesn’t matter that there was no other case where such an exception was made. It also, seemingly, doesn’t matter that Hamas was officially labeled a terrorist organization by the Canadian government back in 2002 under the leadership of Jean Chretien.

“It’s this type of warped thinking that has caused journalists at CBC to receive the shocking instructions that they did. The memo was verified by these same journalists as well as a representative from the CBC. It makes you think that Hamas must have some big friends in the establishment media. Which leads me to suspect that they also do in their government and probably ours too,” she continued.

At the end of the day, words matter. Labels matter. We try to tell ourselves as a culture that they don’t, but they do. There is power in names. Did you know in many ancient religions — and in some today — knowing the name of a spiritual being — such as a demon — gives you power over it? Labels and names have always been viewed as critical parts of identifying and dealing with problems we face as a species.

How can we properly bring an end to the ugliness and murder committed by a group of radical zealots like Hamas if we are not allowed to openly label their beliefs, actions, and crimes as what they truly are: terrorism?

  1. If one of then had a ounce of brains they would recognize that exactingly what they are! Both George Achi and Laura Wellington should inform be removed from their positions. Maybe one or both of then are some way associated with Hamas?

  2. Call it what it is….terrorists. F—- the Palestinians. They had chances for peace and would have been left alone if the people had not elected ham-ass as their representative.

  3. Same reason George Floyd, a drugged up criminal gets labeled a hero, given a hero’s funeral-it serves a political interest, which today’s press values more highly than honesty, than professionalism in reporting the news.
