Los Angeles Declares Itself A Sanctuary City In Response To Trump’s Victory

(Congress Report) – If you thought President-elect Donald Trump winning the presidential election and the GOP taking control of Congress were going to make it easy to implement the MAGA agenda, particularly as it relates to deporting illegal aliens, you’d better think again. This battle has only just begun.

Lawmakers in the city of Los Angeles, California voted on Tuesday to adopt a sanctuary city policy in order to fight back against Trump’s massive deportation operation that will begin shortly after he takes office in January. The ordinance was passed 13-0 and will block L.A. from providing any of its resources or personnel to federal enforcement of immigration laws. What they are saying, in reality, is that illegal aliens are more important than actual citizens and should have more protection of their “rights” than you do.

It doesn’t seem that leftists got the message after being crushed by a red wave on Nov. 5. This was the attitude displayed by the current Biden-Harris administration that led to them losing so badly in the first place. All Democrats are doing with this kind of policy is driving more of their own voters toward the right.

“City Attorney Hydee Feldstein Soto, along with Mayor Karen Bass, released the draft ordinance last week that was written with help from immigration groups. Council members Hugo Soto-Martinez and Monica Rodriguez, who chair the council’s Civil Rights and Public Safety committees, respectively, waived the matter from their jurisdictions to expedite a vote on the matter. California has been a sanctuary state since 2017 with the passage of SB 54, which prohibits local law enforcement agencies from using resources to investigate, detain, report or arrest people for immigration violations,” Fox News reported.

During a debate that took place on Tuesday, many public speakers came forward in favor of the sanctuary city ordinance, building their case on the notion that immigrant communities should be protected from the “unimaginable cruelty” of raids that they say could result in the separation of families and target those who have come to the U.S. to work. Other individuals were concerned about how the city’s resources are being depleted in order to provide assistance to illegal aliens, especially since officials are also trying to combat mass homelessness and a housing crisis.

“Sanctuary cities typically don’t cooperate with federal immigration authorities, refusing to honor detainer requests from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which are used to take custody of criminal illegal immigrants for deportation. Many times, such jurisdictions will release the suspects back onto the street without informing ICE. Some have gone on to reoffend, sometimes violently, before being apprehended again,” Fox noted.

“Tom Homan, who previously served as acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and has been tapped by Trump to serve as his ‘border czar,’ previously suggested mass deportations are necessary in the wake of the ‘historic illegal immigration crisis,'” the piece added.

“President Trump has made it clear we will prioritize public safety threats and national security threats first. And that’s what the focus should be,” he remarked during an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity last week.

L.A. County GOP members slammed the ordinance noting that it would provide shielding for criminals who came across the border illegally.

“A country without secure borders isn’t a country at all. So-called ‘sanctuary’ cities and states sound warm and fuzzy, but the protections they offer aren’t for abuelas (grandmothers) getting ice cream, they’re for people who’ve entered the country illegally and committed additional crimes,” LACGOP Communications Director Rozanne Hodge said in a statement given to Fox News Digital. “Whether drunk driving, robbery, sexual violence, assault or murder, none of those should go unpunished. Perpetrators should definitely not be protected by the largesse taken from hard-working taxpayers.”

  1. Instead of deporting the murderers, felons, and mentally deranged aliens who entered illegally, build a wall around LA and dump 5 or 6 million aliens in their city. Then move the project to Chicago and New York.
