(Congress Report) – Former President Donald Trump is still enjoying a narrow lead over Vice President Kamala Harris in the state of North Carolina, according to a brand new survey conducted by Fox News. This has been the case since September. Let’s hope his lead continues to widen and remains unchanged. The last thing we need as a nation is for Harris to start gaining ground in the race.
The results of the survey have the 45th president ahead of Harris 49 percent to 47 percent among likely voters. Third-party candidates are currently receiving around 4 percent support. If this were just a two-person race between the major party nominees, Trump would have a 1 point lead. Which is precisely why so many people hate it when folks run as third-party or independent candidates. It splits the vote.
“The differences between Harris and Trump on all ballot tests fall within the margin of error. The previous Fox News survey of North Carolina voters, released in September, also had Trump favored by just a touch among likely voters and Harris narrowly up among registered voters. Looking at results on the full ballot among likely voters, Trump is favored among Whites without a college degree, White voters overall, rural voters and voters ages 65 and over,” Fox said.
When it comes to Black voters, those who live in urban areas, those who have college degrees and voters who are under 35, Harris is the preferred candidate. She’s got a teeny, tiny lead among suburban voters, mostly due to her appeal with women.
“Trump is meeting or exceeding his 2020 numbers among these groups, while Harris’ support trails what President Biden received among Blacks, young voters and suburban voters, according to the North Carolina Fox News Voter Analysis election survey. There is a 20-point gender gap, as men back Trump by 13 points and women go for Harris by 7,” the report revealed.
The former president has won North Carolina twice before. In 2016 he yanked the state out from beneath Hillary Clinton by 4 percentage points and beat out Biden in 2020 by a little over 1 percentage point. Out of the last two decades, the only Democrat to flip North Carolina blue was former President Barack Obama. And that was by a half of a point back in 2008.
“Whoever wins North Carolina will likely do two things, win the suburbs with a stronger closing message and maximize turnout in their base areas,” Democratic pollster Chris Anderson, who conducts Fox News surveys with Republican Daron Shaw, went on to say.
A total of 14 percent of Harris supporters say they trust Trump to handle immigration issues, while 11 percent of those who are rooting for Trump say they trust Kamala with the issue of abortion.
“By a 5-point margin, more voters see Trump as a strong leader, while more say Harris has the right temperament to be president by 5 points. There are smaller differences on helping the middle class (Harris +3), protecting American democracy (Harris +3), fighting for people like you (Harris +1), bringing needed change (Trump +2) and saying what they believe rather than what will get them elected (Trump +3),” the piece added.
