Cash-Strapped State On The Verge Of Handing Out Taxpayer-Funded Home Loans To Illegal Aliens

(Congress Report) – Lawmakers in the state of California, which is transforming into more of a communist slum by the day, are getting closer to making hundreds of millions of dollars in home loans, all funded by taxpayers, available to individuals who are living in our country illegally. Clearly they care a whole lot more for the illegal aliens than the law-abiding American citizens who populate the state and have an enormous chunk of their paycheck taxed to fund programs California has in place.

According to a new report from the Daily Caller, Democrats who are part of the California Senate Appropriations Committee all unanimously voted to pass AB 1840, pushing the legislation forward last Thursday. Fortunately, there’s still one last opportunity for this monstrosity to be struck down on the Senate floor, where Democrats wield most of their power, before it is sent off to Gov. Gavin Newsom. You know he will sign that sucker into law before it even lands on his desk.

“The legislation seeks to amend the California Dream For All Shared Appreciation Loan program, an initiative launched last year that provides first-time homebuyers with a loan of up to 20% of the house’s purchase price for down payment or closing cost. If passed and signed into law, illegal migrants living in California would be eligible to apply for a piece of the pie,” the article said.

“Once again, California has chosen to prioritize illegal immigration and fiscal irresponsibility over the needs of its citizens, all while facing a $60 billion deficit that will ultimately be passed onto taxpayers,” San Diego County Supervisor Jim Desmond went on to say in a statement given to the Daily Caller News Foundation.

“California is in dire financial straits, yet lawmakers continue to prioritize programs that incentivize illegal immigration and strain local resources,” Desmond added. “Expanding this program to include illegal immigrants is not just another handout — it’s a massive overreach that shifts the financial burden onto law-abiding taxpayers.”

The taxpayer-funded home loans carry no interest and approved borrowers do not have to make monthly payments, which is one of the many reasons it has become a rather big hit among residents in California. I know what you’re asking already. With such a sweet, sweet deal, how in the world did this program not immediately run out of money?

It did.

Back when the program first started in May 2023, there were 2,300 interest-free loans offered to both middle and lower-income homebuyers, which quickly drained the $300 million that had been set aside for funding. It only took two weeks for the money to be snapped up. Ever since then, officials within the state government have tightened up the eligibility requirements for the program, which now requires that one of the applicants be a first-generation homebuyer. They also chucked the first-come-first-serve model and now hold a lottery in its place.

A state Democratic lawmaker from Fresno feels that this program is simply not inclusive enough. This individual is apparently not concerned at all with the fact that California has a budget deficit sitting in the tens of billions of dollars. To the left, money seemingly falls out of the sky, which is one reason the vast majority of their policies never work. They’re a denial of reality.

“Assemblymember Joaquin Arambula, a Democrat from Fresno, first introduced AB 1840 in January, with the goal of broadening the definition of ‘first-time home buyer’ to include illegal immigrants. The lawmaker argued in March that the ‘social and economic benefits of homeownership should be available to everyone,’ according to local news KTLA. Arambula did not immediately respond to the DCNF’s request for comment,” the report stated. “The legislation has since easily passed the Democrat-dominated California Assembly and sailed through the Senate Appropriations Committee — with opposition exclusively relegated to GOP lawmakers.”

“California’s budget deficit continues to grow and Democratic lawmakers are so out of touch with everyday Californians that they and are quite literally taking money away from law-abiding citizens, their own constituents, and handing it over as a free gift to people who broke federal law to cross the border illegally,” California Sen. Brian Dahle told the DCNF.

“There’s no accountability and transparency when it comes to the Democrats’ spending sprees, and it’s unfortunate because many Californians see homeownership as nothing more than an illusion at this point,” Dahle noted.

While the bleeding hearts in California continue to daydream about wiping poverty out with the stroke of a pen — a feat that is impossible, California’s budget is swirling around at the bottom of the toilet bowl and headed for the sewer. In June, the state legislature approved a budget designed to cut spending and temporarily raise taxes on businesses as a means of trying to shore up the $50 million budget deficit. Just two years ago, the state had a surplus of $100 billion. You can thank inflation, unemployment, and the slow down of the tech industry for the massive blow to the state’s bank account.

That, coupled with poor leadership, is causing California to drown economically. And rather than helping their residents dig out of the hole, the state legislature is more interested in giving away free stuff to illegal aliens. This is seriously sickening.
